Join the Big Christmas Walk at Kinneil

image STEP FORTH – the group which runs health walks around Kinneil Estate – is taking a well earned breather over Christmas . . . . Well, almost.

Regular walks will be on hold until the week commencing January 11.

However, anyone keen to walk of all that turkey, mince pies and festive chocolate will have a chance to wrap up warm and get on their walking shoes for a special festive trek.

Step Forth has organised a one-off Big Christmas Walk, leaving from outside Kinneil Museum in Kinneil Estate, Bo’ness, on Tuesday, December 29, at 2 p.m.

Local people – as well as regular Step Forth walkers – are invited to come along and join in and tour the estate.

Development officer Barbara McConnell said: "Whilst we’re having a break over Christmas, we thought it would be good to have a one-off walk event over the festive period to let people know what we’re doing, and encourage them to take part in our regular walks, which restart on January 11, 2010. It will also be a great way to start getting rid of all those excess calories we eat at Christmas!

"The event on December 29 will offer details on our walks in Bo’ness and across Falkirk district and give people the chance to meet some of volunteers. Our walks are free to join in, and are open to people of all ages. Generally they take around 45 minutes to an hour to complete – and are a good way to get some free, regular exercise, meet some lovely people and take in fantastic local scenery."

The Big Christmas Walk is being supported by the charity The Friends of Kinneil, which encouraged Step Forth to start regular health walks around Kinneil Estate.

A spokesperson said: "Kinneil Museum will be open on the day of the December 29 walk, so there will be an opportunity to look around the museum before or after the event and warm up inside. The museum also has some great things on sale, so there’s a chance for some retail therapy too."
