THE charity The Friends of Kinneil has announced the winners of its art and photography competition for 2009.
The contest was organised to encourage people to share their images of the historic Kinneil landscape which is packed with wildlife, natural habitats and listed buildings.
In the adult categories, Sylvia von Kynhoff, of Hazeldean Avenue, Bo’ness, took first prize in the art competition – and also won the overall prize. She scoops a book token and an original painting by local artist Guthrie Pollock.
Mrs von Kynhoff produced an evocative drawing of the Kinneil Church and the back of Kinneil House on a winter’s day.
The first prize in the photography section was won by Jackie Mitchell of Foredale Terrace, Bo’ness – with a seasonal shot of berries in front of Kinneil House. The children’s section was won by Eilidh McCallister (7), whose grandparents live in Burnside Gardens, Linlithgow, with her line drawing of the historic House.
The prizes – which included Historic Scotland passes, and gift vouchers for the Bo’ness Toy Shop and Inkspot and Silverleaf Booksellers in Bo’ness – were given to winners at the charity’s annual Christmas Party, held last Friday.
The winning entries are now on show in Bo’ness Library.
Bruce Henderson, the chairman of The Friends of Kinneil, said: “The breadth of winning entries shows why the estate is so important to local people.
“For some people it’s all about the heritage – the impressive A-listed Kinneil House, which dates back to the 15th century and the other listed buildings within the estate, including the impressive Kinneil Museum.
“But Kinneil is also about woodland walks, watching swans on the pond – or enjoying a great day out at things like the Hill Climb and Heritage Day.
“Kinneil truly is a magical place for local families – and the top entries capture the many facets of this wonderful parkland. We’d like to thank everyone who entered.”
The charity will make arrangements for people to pick up their entries after the library exhibition – early in the New Year. Anyone with any queries, should email: info@kinneil.org.uk or call 01506 510629.
